Drunk driving suspected in fatal Texas pedestrian accident

Car accidents can happen at any time of the day or night. Sometimes they occur as a result of a single moment of inattention. Despite this, law enforcement officials might automatically assume that a person with a previous conviction related to drunk driving is automatically guilty of the same if involved in another accident. For example, it is unclear what led police to suspect that alcohol was a factor in a recent car accident in Texas that, unfortunately, resulted in the loss of a life.

The accident reportedly happened one morning on a day in December. According to police, a 30-year-old man was headed east on a Texas road when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle. Police say that the vehicle then veered onto a sidewalk, striking a 72-year-old woman and a light pole.

People in the vicinity of the accident reportedly tried to help the woman in the immediate aftermath. However, she passed away after being transported to the hospital. While the alleged driver's condition is unclear, he was in a hospital bed for a booking photo. Though reports indicate that the man was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2014, it is unclear what evidence supports the belief that alcohol was a factor in this incident.

An accident that results in a fatality is always a tragedy, and the desire for justice is understandable. However, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in order to convict someone of drunk driving or other charges. Often, those facing such allegations feel uncertain about their options, prompting them to hire an experienced defense attorney to guide them throughout the process.
